Job Title: System Engineer
Must have experience and expertise in Linux system engineering, installation and administration. Secondarily, similar levels of capabilities in basic IP networking, including traffic shaping and firewalling. Experience or willing to acclimate into radio networking engineering including WiFi and more sophisticated proprietary microwave technology.Duties:
Responsible for management, including monitoring, capacity planning, enhancing and tier2 support for the following:- Linux servers that provide DNS, DHCP, smtp email (emix, qmail and zimbra), web services (apache2, resin, glassfish), and database services (postgresql, mysql) using Fedora and Ubuntu distributions.
- VMWare virtual servers running Linux.
- OpenNMS.
- Edge and numerous internal routers running BGP and OSPF.
- Microwave bridge network, including Alvarion VL, Orthogon and Proxim technology.
Engineering of network topology changes, including expansion of the bridges, routing design, router programming and installation.
Responsibility for two co-location facilities, environmental monitoring and capacity planning.
Design LAN networks and supervise and assist in installation, including cable plant certification, switching and Internet connectivity.
Responsible for Internet backhaul, those interconnections and technical collaboration with tier1 providers.
Provide technical advice and insight to sales staff.
Actively search for internal and external risk to service availability. Design and implement disaster recovery procedures.
Additionally beneficial is experience with VoIP, SIP, the PSTN, SS7 and any broadband mobile technology including WiMAX, TD-CDMA, CDMA or GSM.
